Dentistry
Dentistry at Bienville Animal Medical Center is a daily ongoing process. Virtually every business day, we at Bienville perform dental prophies (commonly known as teeth cleanings) on pets. We feel strongly that dental health is more than maintaining a general health of a patient, including the rest of the gastrointestinal, tracts, respiratory tracts and even cardiac status.
We also extract retained deciduous teeth, perform procedures on dental abscesses and oral cancers and extract severely diseased teeth. Our primary veterinarians perform these common procedures each day. For more extensive procedures such as root canals, periodontal procedures and orthodontics, Dr. Andrew Duke from Mobile shares his skills as a regional authority on animal dentistry.
Dr, Andrew Duke is a 1975 graduate of the Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine. He is the senior clinician and owner of the Duke Animal Clinic in Mobile, Alabama. http://www.dukeanimalclinic.com.
Early in his practice career, Dr. Duke developed an interest in animal dentistry and sought opportunities to further his knowledge of this fascinating and unique area of veterinary medicine. In 1989 the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry credentialed him. http://www.AVDonline.org. Over the next few years, Dr. Duke attended Faulkner State Community College one day a week and earned a degree in human dental assisting and passed the National Board for dental assistants. He has recently completed a residency in veterinary dentistry and will be standing for the Board exams this spring.
Bienville Animal Medical Center is proud to have Dr. Andrew Duke as part of their professional team. Dr. Duke sees referral dental patients every other Thursday at BAMC. On other days, Dr. Duke sees dental cases at his clinic in Mobile and is always available to the staff of BAMC for consultation. You might not think that pets need dental care, but here is a list of some of the services Dr. Duke provides;
• Root canal therapy for broken teeth
• Crowns to rehabilitate restored teeth, especially working dogs
• Orthodontics for young dogs with injuries or conditions that keep them from closing their mouth
• Surgical removal of infected or diseased teeth
• Management of cancer in the oral area
Dr. “Andy” and his wife, Lynne, have three sons and two grandsons with two more grandsons on the way late in 2008. When not working, Doctor and Mrs. Duke both are active musicians in the Mobile Pops Band and numerous church ensembles. Music is his avocation. Dr. Duke also enjoys sailing on Mobile Bay and cultivating camellias.
