CANINE RESPIRATORY ILLNESS

Subject: Canine Respiratory Illness Update

Dear clients,

You may have read reports of a new respiratory illness affecting dogs in some regions of the U.S. Our team is closely monitoring the situation and wanted to share our current understanding of the illness to keep you informed.

What we know: It is a respiratory infection in dogs that’s been reported in various U.S. states. The illness is difficult to detect, and animal health officials are working to identify the cause and level of concern.

Common Symptoms: Coughing, sneezing, nasal and eye discharge, and lethargy, with symptoms resembling what’s commonly known as “kennel cough.”

How to best protect your dog:

• Vaccinations: Ensure your dog is current on appropriate vaccinations, especially for Bordetella and Influenza.

• Limit Contact: Reduce contact with unfamiliar dogs. Increased contact may raise the risk of exposure to respiratory pathogens.

• Keep Sick Dogs Isolated: If your dog shows symptoms, contact your veterinarian and isolate them from other dogs.

• Visiting the Vet with a Symptomatic Dog: When arriving at our clinic, avoid the waiting room; keep your dog in your car and call the front desk for next steps.

Your pet’s health remains our top priority. If your dog is experiencing any of these symptoms, please get in touch with us at Bienville Animal Medical Center 228-872-1231 or email us at [email protected].
